According to the American Association of
Geriatric Psychiatry, nearly 1 out of every 4 households provides
care to a relative or loved one aged 50 or older. As the 76 million
baby boomers become older adults, resources and assistance for caregivers
will be increasingly needed. The main source of help for the majority
of adults with an illness or disability is a community of unpaid
caregivers such as neighbors, family and friends. As a caregiver,
you may help out occasionally with chores or transportation, or
you may arrange for and provide round-the-clock supervision or hands-on
care.
Program services include:
· Information, Assistance &
Referral Service — Assistance is available to help callers
identify and clarify needs, as well as locate resources and find
support related to their
individual caregiving situations.
· Call Back Telephone Support —
Caregivers who need extra assistance and/or emotional support can
receive regular or intermittent assistance from the Caregiver Specialist.
· In-Depth or In-Person Support —
Callers with complex or urgent needs who are not able to be served
by other providers may receive consultation services from our Caregiver
Specialist that include problem-solving, one-to-one education, advocacy
and linkage to resources, and follow-up support to assure needs
have been met. Callers who need extra assistance and/or emotional
support may receive regular or intermittent assistance.
· Respite Care Services — Eligible
caregivers with an urgent need for respite have the option to receive
short-term services in the home or community-based settings. Care
is subsidized by the program on a sliding fee scale basis based
on income and / or need criteria. The goal of the program is to offer
short-term assistance while more permanent care is arranged.
